BOY - Little Numbers (Official Video)

Boy Meets Boy is a young adult novel by David Levithan , published in Set in a gay-friendly small town in America, it describes a few weeks in the lives of a group of high school students.

The story follows the standard romantic trope usually known as "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl" except that the main characters are both boys, the narrator Paul and newcomer Noah.

The novel won a Lambda Literary Award in He is best friends with Joni, whom he has known since early childhood and to whom he came out in second grade, and Tony, who is also gay and who lives in the much less accepting next town over with his strict, religious parents.

On a night out with Joni and Tony, while listening to a friend play music in a bookstore, Paul meets Noah and is instantly attracted to him.

They discover that they attend the same school and after some miscommunication and false starts, they eventually reconnect and start to date.

At the same time, Joni who has recently broken up with her long-term boyfriend Ted for the twelfth time starts to date Chuck, a football player who was extremely cruel to Paul's friend, Infinite Darlene, when his crush on her turned out to be unrequited.

This relationship causes a great deal of tension within Joni and Paul's friendship, and it also upsets Ted and Infinite Darlene.

The previous year, Paul had dated Kyle, who then dumped him and spread the rumor that Paul had "tricked" him into being gay. As Paul's relationship with Noah starts to flourish, Kyle attempts to come back into Paul's life.

He apologizes to Paul and starts coming to him for comfort and support, as he is uncertain about his sexuality and his aunt has recently died.

While Paul is at first cautious, he comes to understand Kyle more and see him as a friend. Paul confesses everything [ clarify ] to Joni, who then tells Chuck.

Chuck spreads this [ clarify ] all around the school and before long, people are placing bets on what they think the outcome will be.

Noah's feelings towards Paul seem to cool at this stage. Tony is having trouble coping with his homophobic parents, and he decides to go for a hike with Paul in nearby woods.

After their hike, Paul hugs Tony tightly, only to be interrupted by Tony's mother's best friend, who spreads what she saw to everyone she knows.

Rumors spread that Paul and Tony are in a relationship, so Tony's parents forbid him from having contact with Paul.

The next day, Kyle is feeling a great deal of stress and fear, and Paul kisses him. Noah hears the rumor about Paul and Tony, and in the process of denying that anything happened between the two of them, he inadvertently confesses the fact that he kissed Kyle that day.

Upon learning of this, Noah ends their relationship. An excellent book and one I think will be well received at school.

It could be a successful text for school I think, there is a lot you could discuss as a result of reading this novel. May 06, Carmen rated it liked it.

There Pierrot must forget his French self, the boy he once was and who befriended a deaf Jewish boy, Anshel, and embrace his German self: Pieter.

In that house Pierrot meets both tenderness and torture: and asks himself if it is better to be a bully or bullied.

To end up by the age of fifteen a pet of the Nazi regime, swanning about with all the arrogance of youth, completely unable to see why the children of the village might not like him and eager to change that by means of force.

It is a light study of innocence corrupted but it also shows the attractions of power, the malleability of youth and a life of regret. John Boyne, the author, has a way with words that allows him to describe events by the point of view of his characters so well, and his books are worth reading just because of this.

For example, instead of saying the seven year old main character, Pierrot, observed a swastika on the bands of boys in uniform, he'll say that he saw a red, black and white flag with little hooked crosses.

This way of describing objects and events allows the reader to detach themselves from what the object is and instead focus on how it makes people feel - in the case of the swastika, intimidated and threatened.

Describing things instead of using their name makes the book realistic as well, as an isolated French seven year old is not going to know what a swastika is, or what is means.

Writing style aside, the book is pretty amazing at discussing topics that relate to our current world, even if they are mentioned in the context of the time of WW2.

Topics like sexual harassment and the necessity for consent being discussed was definitely my favourite thing about this book, as it is a book meant for children and teenagers, yet it doesn't stop it from teaching readers an important lesson - no means no.

This book is powerful, and my skepticism towards it being like 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' is now burnt to smithereens!

It packs a punch, and it is well worth the read. Pierrot, the protagonist, becomes an orphan when his dad dies from being run over by a train, and his mom dies from a severe disease.

He has no where to go until one day, his aunt, a maid at the mansion, tells him to come live with her. Throughout his stay there, he changes from an innocent, cheerful boy to a harmful and serious teenager who has "The Boy at the Top of the Mountain" is an incredible and emotional story about a 8 year old boy spending 8 years of his life in Adolf Hitlers mansion.

Throughout his stay there, he changes from an innocent, cheerful boy to a harmful and serious teenager who has been strongly influenced by Adolf Hitler to become a person he's not.

Pierrot has a self-esteem and brags non-stop to the people around him about how amazing he is and how much of an important position he holds once he starts to grow close to Hitler.

This book reminded me of "The Pearl". Both protagonists turn greedy and self-absorbed because of something unbelievable that they have encountered or own.

They come from innocence but end up with greed. After reading " The boy in the stripped pyjama ", I was looking forward to reading this book by the same author in school.

I really did enjoy this story, mainly because WW 2 interests me a lot living and having grown up in Germany , and I thought that it was a great example of how a child like Pierrot would have felt having someone as important as Hitler at the time take interest in him and make him feel important.

It gives you a perspective of the Hitler-Jugend and makes you understand it bett After reading " The boy in the stripped pyjama ", I was looking forward to reading this book by the same author in school.

It gives you a perspective of the Hitler-Jugend and makes you understand it better. The Writing of this Novel was also very nice to read.

It wasn't anything extravagant, but nice and it worked well. It also gives to that feeling od actually telling someone the story and makes you have the impression of being apart if it although I don't think nobody would want that XD.

I have to say though that the age rating of the book is too young. I would only recommend this book to older "kids" from 14 onwards and people who have basic knowledge on both the World Wars.

Nov 08, cameron rated it did not like it. The worst example of pure crap I have ever read. Pretending to be historical.

Pretending to teach something about the worst dictator ever to be born. Pretending a Jew who lost everything to Hitler could kindly take a german who had abandoned Ed him, into his home to tell his story.

As if he were any different from the millions of Germans who adored and paid homage to their leader. Oh right, when it was o we they were sorry?

Dialogue that reads like dropped blocks. Ridiculous plot twists. Prepost The worst example of pure crap I have ever read.

A best seller?!?!?! No wonder we have the president we do if this passes for history. Sep 24, Terri rated it really liked it Shelves: sent-for-review.

This book was amazing. Click here for my full review on my blog. This story helps to understand a little, the reason why so many people followed Hitler so blindly Sep 16, Joaquin Mejia rated it liked it.

My school required me to read this. I was initially glad that this book that my classmates and I have to read is a book for younger readers.

That would mean that it is a book that is easy to read. But for some reason, I found this tedious to get through. I don't know whether it was because of the other school requirements were on my mind or the simple fact that it was a school-required book.

I still enjoyed reading it though. The book is a historical fiction story that takes place during World Wa My school required me to read this.

The book is a historical fiction story that takes place during World War II. The book is about Pierrot Fischer, a boy with a German father and a French mother.

After the death of his parents, he leaves France for his Aunt Beatrix in Germany. He learns that the house she works in is the house of Adolf Hitler himself, the dictator who ruled Nazi Germany from to One thing the book does a good job of doing is mixing fictional characters and real historical figures together.

Most historical fiction books only insert the major figures of the time period in the background. This book, however, made the fictional characters actively interact with the historical figures.

Since the historical figures in this novel were the notorious leaders of the Nazi regime, this made the story quite dark.

I guess I thought that it might have gotten too dark as the story went on. But then again, the time where the story takes place in was a terrible time, so I should not have been surprised.

I'll just wait for another school-required book to review in Goodreads. I enjoy reviewing school-required books in this website precisely because I am not academically required to do this.

I do this because it is fun to share my thoughts on books. Dec 08, Pallavi rated it really liked it Shelves: own.

Mar 16, Natali rated it really liked it. This was a clever story with a strong attempt at turning a good protagonist into a not-good person.

I'm not sure it was completely successful but I still took the emotional journey with the lead character and I enjoyed it.

The writing is very good, at times witty. Some of it was a little cheeky, such as the appearance of a childhood book at punctuating moments.

Still, I liked the book very much and I appreciate the ambition of it. Apr 13, Lone Matz rated it it was amazing.

Such a very emotional Story. I just love the way Boyne writes, he has a certain way with words that goes straight to the heart.

May 25, Kirsty rated it liked it Shelves: standalones , library-books , historical-fiction , John Boyne is the author of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas which is an excellent book so I was excited to read this one.

In my opinion, this book wasn't as good as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The character in this book is not very likeable.

The story follows a young book who moves from France to live with his aunt who works in Hitler's home. As the novel progresses we see Pierrot change from an innocent child to someone that craves power and acts cruelly to those around him.

Although I didn't like Pierrot I thought the author did a good job of showing how easily people could be manipulated. I found this story interesting as it is different from the vast majority of WW2 books.

Despite being a children's book I feel that all ages could read this and gain something from it. This novel is very good at showing how easily people's views can be changed and how they can be manipulated to do things that they never thought they would do.

Although I have give it 3 stars I feel that 3. It is a quick read as I read it in one sitting. I would recommend this for anyone that is interested in WW2 fiction.

Oct 27, Stephen rated it really liked it. There are always two sides to every story. Or rather, it leads us through the story of Pierrot, born half-French and half-German, who finds himself being raised by an aunt in Austria.

Mostly it is a story on how nurture upbringing can sometimes take precedence over nature. A bit at the end caught me by surprise, a good surprise.
